For those who lack the motivation to go for a dip in the Isar or the Eisbach in the English Garden, indoor swimming pools offer the chance to enjoy a swim and relax in the winter months, complete with attractive sauna facilities.
A real gem is the Müllersche Volksbad, which opened as far back as 1901 and was Munich’s first public indoor swimming pool, built in the Art Nouveau style. It is situated in the Au district, between the Isar (river) and the Auer Mühlbach, very close to the Deutschen Museum. Here, visitors can relax and swim in a pleasant atmosphere. Rather than a large water park with thrills and slides, visitors can expect a stylish, peaceful swimming facility with two indoor pools: the large hall features a 31-metre pool with two swimming lanes, whilst the smaller hall has an 18-metre pool and is particularly well-suited to leisurely swimming. There is also a massage service, a restaurant, a gym and a spacious sauna area.

Thanks to its Olympic heritage, the Olympiaschwimmhalle in the Olympiapark (Olympic Park) remains the perfect training venue for ambitious swimming enthusiasts to this day. At its heart is the 50-metre competition pool – Munich’s only public 50-metre indoor pool. There is also a separate diving pool with a 10-metre diving tower, a teaching pool, a recovery pool and a spacious children’s paddling area with various attractions. For a break in between, there is a café bar overlooking the pools. Those looking to relax further can make use of the Olympia Sauna Paradise, which features a special snow cabin to cool down.

And as the name suggests, you can plunge into ocean-like surf in a 35-by-16-metre pool, as the main attraction is the large wave pool, where powerful waves are generated regularly to ensure a truly enjoyable swimming experience. The area for splashing about and playing covers over 120 square metres. The large children’s paddling area, complete with a slide, a boat channel, floor fountains and water jets, offers plenty of variety for the little ones. Those looking for a more relaxing experience can make themselves comfortable in the heated outdoor pool with bubble loungers and neck showers. There is also a modern sauna area.
